A group of Neora Brand Partners, along with World Vision staff and Neora executives, visited villages in San Luis Potosi to build clean water tanks and teach children good dental health care techniques.
The trip was the first since the Neora Ripple Foundation began its partnership with World Vision, which works with children, families and communities on issues related to poverty and injustice. The foundation’s goal is to inspire Brand Partners to take steps to make the world a better place, therefore setting off a “ripple” effect.
Since July 2015, Brand Partners in Mexico have had the opportunity to make monthly commissions contributions to support the Neora partnership with World Vision. These financial gifts are used to support families living in poverty in San Luis Potosi. This mission trip allowed sales leaders in Mexico to spend time getting to know the families who benefit from Neora’s gifts.
“This was a very special trip for the Neora Ripple Foundation,” said Jeff Dahl, Co-CEO for Neora. “And you are all very special people for generously giving time away from your families and businesses to serve this community.”
The group helped build two rainwater cisterns for community residents. Each tank provides water for about 100 families during the dry winter season. Without the water tanks, families would have to walk 4 miles to a well, then carry water back that same distance.
Poor dental care leads to early tooth decay and subsequent poor nutrition for many residents of these villages. This creates a cycle of bad health because their diet is restricted by a lack of oral health. During a visit to the local school, Neora Mexico General Manager Alfonso Todd addressed children on the importance of studying in school and taking good care of their health so they can achieve their dreams for the future.
For that reason, this work group included two dentists, who taught village children the importance of taking good care of their teeth. Neora Brand Partners supported these lessons by interacting with the children and giving them gifts of toothpaste, toothbrushes and dental floss. For most children in the village, this was the first time they had ever brushed their teeth and they proudly showed their shiny smiles to Brand Partners the next morning.
Brand Partners also brought toys, clothes and blankets for the families in the village. Children were thrilled to have new clothes and shoes, as well as the toys and books.
Based on the success of this trip, the Neora Ripple Foundation plans to coordinate more mission and volunteer activities in the future. Brand Partners who make monthly donations are eligible to participate. More details on these opportunities will be shared through the monthly Neora Ripple email as they are available.
